With the continuous expansion of downstream application fields, the overall production capacity of maleic anhydride in China has continued to expand in the past two years, and competition has remained fierce. From the downstream perspective, maleic anhydride is widely used in various fields such as pharmaceuticals, coatings, inks, lubricant additives, papermaking chemicals, textile finishing agents, food additives, and surfactants. In recent years, downstream applications of maleic anhydride have been continuously developed, and the total demand is gradually increasing. Coupled with the gradual implementation of the domestic "plastic restriction order", the number of manufacturers producing biodegradable plastic products such as PBS and PBAT is increasing, which will greatly drive the growth of demand for raw material maleic anhydride.

The impact of n-butane supply, demand and cost on maleic anhydride continues to increase. Since 2021, geopolitical conflicts have accelerated, energy supply and demand structure has deteriorated, crude oil costs continue to rise, and the overall cost of n-butane continues to rise. At the beginning of the quarter, supply and demand continued to rebound, and n-butane began to slowly decline, To some extent, the cost pressure of maleic anhydride has been alleviated, but as of the end of 2022, the cost of n-butane in China remains high compared to 2020.
